These are used to reduce joint stiffness, and to keep joints flexible. ROM is the normal amount your joints can be moved in certain directions by gentle stretching exercises and to lengthen shortened muscles,tendons and ligaments.

Different types of ROM techniques include:
1~ PROM - passive range of motion - therapist does stretching of patient.
2~ AROM - active range of motion - patient does stretching.
3~ AAROM - active, assisted range of motion - patient and therapist actively
     work together.
